Thinking On Paper

As usual, the vast majority of my blogs are scribbled on scraps of paper or in random notebooks before they are typed up and preserved for posterity (ha!). This one is not different. Just trying to figure some stuff out…

Chaotic, busy weekend. Looking forward to Monday so I can sit in my office and relax.
Hunting for a new place to live. Exciting and depressing all in one. Sad because when I first decided on this course of action I had been hoping to do so with my special person. Merge and bond. Support and be there for each other. Have that connection and explore the world together. Not that we had talked about it, just something I thought would be nice. Exciting because I still plan to do so just on my own. Lonelier though and without his input to open up ideas I miss on my own.
Find myself struggling with what neighborhood I want to be in. Before I was thinking Uptown because I know he likes it there but really it too snooty and white for my tastes. I found a place I like right by work/school. It would be handy and yet with going to the gym twice a day lately it really isn’t all that convenient. And I will be in shape before I go. I’ll be damned if I am going to wedge my fat ass into a time plane seat for 17+ hours. Nothing I can do about the legs but I can correct this! Unfortunately it is located in an all white suburban neighborhood and I just can’t do it. Also checking out the neighborhood near my coffee shop might be nice. I could just wander my ass over there or to the bars any time I like and would be right near the light rail as well. Problem is that it is nowhere near work/school or the gym so I would be stuck driving all over town not to mention spending more money on going out which is not at all conducive to digging myself out of my financial mess and starting to travel again.
When it comes right down to it, the stuff I do regularly is far too spread out. I am not in a position to give up my job and school (yet!). Love my gym and refuse to trade it for any that are on my side of town (especially since they have fewer weights and cost more) and I have currently cut my West Bank visits down to once a week. Besides, with iaido, Japanese and swing classes being spread out like they are, any chance of me cutting back on transportation costs are pretty impossible anyway unless I start cutting out activities. MN urban sprawl at its finest! Should probably just stick with some place I am comfortable with. hmmm…
Get to spend a wee bit of time at my favorite coffee shop this afternoon. It has been several weeks since I had the opportunity to do my Sunday afternoon thing there. Many of my usual folks are gone for the summer. Most of them traveling, some went home to their family over the school break. Lots of new folks including on particularly irritating group (to me anyway!) Can’t stand the people who have an almost empty café to choose from and they come squeeze in next to me (don’t get me started on all the people who insist on doing that – at movie theatres, parks, restaurants, parking lots…)
Some quotes from these brilliant parents:
“Why don’t you run around the tables for a bit while we wait for the food to be done?”
“Do you wanna go to the bathroom for a pee party?” (WTF!?!)
And, perhaps my favorite,
“Here, stand on this stool to eat your burrito but be careful because it is really wobbly.”
Better to have the kids standing and far too tall for the table than a bit too short apparently. Never mind the safety factor.
The parents kept wandering off and leaving the kids alone next to me. Eventually I start chatting with them. Considered telling them that Santa isn’t real but figured the kids seem decent enough even if the parents are morons. Instead I decided to teach them a new word.
Do you know what a dildo is?
Dildos are lots of fun to play with.
I think there are a couple around here somewhere. You should see if you can find them.
Resulting in them roaming around asking other patrons if they have seen the dildos or holding up various unattended objects and shouting, “Is this a dildo?” Hell, worked out better than I planned.
Magically turning two irritating little kids into an endless source of amusement for me.
Wonder if the sort of people who name their kids Tree and Bear will even notice…

Was one of those great driving days where everyone just moved out of my way. I love it! Plant the vehicle in the middle lane and everyone just moved for me – didn’t even have to change lanes. Blew past two highway patrol and a sheriff going 20 MPH over the speed limit and they didn’t even budge. Hate the stealth mode on the truck when everyone is trying to merge with me but it does come in handy. Days like this almost make up for the crappy ones.

Finally got #$%@? iTunes working again. Still cannot convince it to burn a CD though. Love my tiny iPod that plugs directly into the headphones but am not happy with my never-ending problems with the software…

Silly Break

When I was young, there were loads of silly songs that were popular. Most everyone has heard "The Streak" but I was chatting with someone at the coffee shop yesterday and reminded of my personal favorite from Ray Stevens. Had to hunt for it on YouTube. Here it is. Enjoy!
